Description

The San Bartolo Park is one of the most natural areas that the Marche region can offer. In a strip of land of about 1600 hectares, the Park includes the ridge that goes from the port of Pesaro to Gabicce Mare , protecting and preserving a unique environment for its heterogeneity of hosted species, both in terms of flora and fauna.

The San Bartolo Park is characterized by two distinct areas: the coastal one, with the cliff that from the pebble beaches , in an alternation of spurs and valleys, reaches the top of the relief del San Bartolo, about 200 meters above sea level; the internal one, with a more vulnerable and purely rural habitat, in an intertwining of cultivated land and re-naturalized spaces.

These areas represent the ideal home for various animal species, especially the roe deer which, in recent years, have been increasing in numbers in a natural way, as well as badgers, porcupines, weasels and dormice. You can find specimens of fox , sometimes also frequenting the beaches to feed on beached marine organisms. To these is added a long list of birds that usually stay or only for short periods. In fact, the park area is an area of migratory passage for species such as hawks pecchiarelli and marsh or as the pale bleak which comes from Africa passes through these parts to go and nest in Eastern Europe.

The San Bartolo Park is also a destination for lovers of trekking and mountain biking . In fact, the protection body, after a study so as not to "disturb" nature, has identified a series of paths to make the park usable.

The location and beauty of this area has not been discovered only in recent years. The area was already inhabited in prehistoric times and in the following periods, as recounted not only by the testimonies collected in the Paleontological Museum of Fiorenzuola di Focara and the excavations that have brought to light a late Roman villa, but also all the ancient historical centers that from the cliff reach the hinterland, from Santa Maria to Castel di Mezzo , from the rural cemeteries to the Girolamino convent of San Bartolo (from which the hill takes its name ). In addition, in these villages it is possible the noble villas that characterized this part of the Pesarese from 1400 onwards: Villa Imperiale and its frescoes, Villa Capriale with beautiful water features, the nineteenth-century Villa Vittoria.

The San Bartolo Park also offers various educational activities , above all of education and awareness of the environment, in line with the signing by the park authority of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism .
